Chris Insoll(born 1956) initially followed an accounting career, but changed tracks to pursue his love of art, studying at the Chelsea, Falmouth and Camberwell Schools of Art securing an honours degree in Fine Art. A life-defining decision followed, with Chris deciding to stay in Cornwall and pursue a career as a full time artist declining an offer to study an MA/PhD at Sussex University. After a couple of years, Chris founded the Portscatho Art Society, an Artist's co-operative and Gallery which continues to thrive 29 years on.
His work is collected and exhibited across Europe including London and Paris with several works held by Falmouth's Art Gallery and the Truro Museum. Chris is best known for his abstract still life works and has been the recipient of several awards including amongst them an award from La Federation Nationale de la Culture Francaise, Deauville .
Chris' work has featured in many publications including St Ives 1975-2005 by Peter Davies and Falmouth Frameworks by Brian Stewart, Lynn Roberts and Paul Mitchell, and most recently was selected for the front cover of the Galleries Summer magazine.
His book published in 2006, Portscatho, Portrait of a Cornish Art Colony, provides a delightful insight into Chris' life as an artist, and the development of Portscatho's vibrant art colony.
